Fred's Oral Prep pass rates

In 2025, 94% of the MCA oral exams sat by Fred's Oral Prep students were passes. So far in 2026 it's 93%.

Across all 2,885 oral exams in our student records, the pass rate is 92.9%:

• OOW 3000 (Yacht): 93.2% (1,541 passes from 1,653 exams)

• Master 500/3000 (Yacht): 92.4% (861 passes from 932 exams)

• Master 200: 93% (279 passes from 300 exams)

How that compares with the MCA's figures

These are the MCA's own pass rates for all candidates, released under the Freedom of Information Act:

• OOW 3000 (Yacht): 71% in 2022, 79% in 2023, 81% in 2024, 85% in 2025

• Master 3000 (Yacht): 70% in 2022, 81% in 2023, 84% in 2024, 83% in 2025

• Master 500 (Yacht): 64% in 2022, 79% in 2023, 83% in 2024, 87% in 2025

• Master 200: 53% in 2022, 54% in 2023, 65% in 2024, 71% in 2025 (the 2022 and 2023 figures are the MCA's for Master Code Vessel <200GT)

How we count

We count every oral exam a student sits, pass or fail, and a re-sit counts as a separate exam. That's the same way the MCA counts. The MCA's figures include our own students.
