What you need to order when you take this course:

Physical charts are required when you do this course.

Fred uses these charts because they’re used in the real exam and it’s good to practice on the real charts.

Nav & Radar Charts Needed

  • Chart 5048

  • Chart 5056

  • Chart 5061

Your boat might already have these charts - however if you need them to be sent, Fred recommends using Todd charts, which are excellent and fast; they usually ship in 2-4 days. Or ordered from any chart agent worldwide.

Radar plotting and secondary ports can be completed while you wait for your charts to arrive.

Take a Peek Inside

Radar Plotting

Chart Work

Secondary Ports

  • Why I created it

Because it’s a hard subject, and so many people fail.

How do you pre-study for something that you have no idea about?

I found this course very hard to do as a student and no amount of books actually explained how to do the radar plotting. I don’t even want to tell you how confused I was on secondary ports before my OOW exam! In 2006 I only had to score 60% on both parts, however, you guys now need to score 70%.

I was an MCA Nav & Radar Teacher, so now I know this inside and out.

  • Who is this course for?

    • If you have booked an MCA Nav & Radar course:

You’ll probably want to avoid wasting time or money by failing, right? Then you need this companion course. This way you can hit the ground running and have the time to really understand the class material. The best way to pass is to make sure you feel 100% confident with the parts we know are going to be in the exam. Chart work, Secondary ports, and Radar plotting are in every written exam!

    • If you’ve taken the exam & failed:

I have found that the guys who went back to school, had to waste time on the subjects they were good at, and not enough time was spent on the subjects they were bad at. With my Nav & Radar companion course, you can save yourself time and concentrate on what you need.

    • If you’re about to do the OOW Oral Exam:

If you passed your Nav & Radar almost 3 years ago, they will ask you about chart work, tides, and radar plotting. Can you think of a better way to prep than to re-do the exam-style questions that will bring you back up to the right level?

Note: it can be used as a refresher for M500/3000, however the oral exam does not have any chart work, so concentrate on the Tide and Radar Plotting as that is an exam question.

“NAV & RADAR IS NOT AN EASY EXAM, –HOWEVER, MY CONCEPT IS.” - Fred

  • "How does it work?"

My Nav & Radar course comes in two parts to match the exam system:

    1. Part A – Chart work, Radar plotting, and Secondary ports

    2. Part B – Theory (Coming soon) which matches the syllabus

I’ve split them into two sections to allow for flexibility, because some people may not need assistance with both parts.

  • "Where do I begin?"

    1. Subscribe to Nav & Radar (Part A) and choose the subscription length which suits you.

    2. Receive a personal email from Fred within 48 hrs of signing up to create a plan of success.

    3. Watch the introduction video.

    4. Order Charts & plotting tools (Radar Plotting and secondary ports can be completed while you wait).

    5. Request past papers in time for your exam.

    6. Sit your exam. Pass. Done. Celebrate! 🍻

  • Ever tried to do pre-study for exam and after getting a question wrong, think “How on earth did they get that answer?!”

    Well you're not alone!

I've specifically developed this pre-study course so you can learn the content, be tested on it, –and most importantly, if you don't get the answer right, watch a video taking you through the answer step-by-step.
